Frequently asked questions

How much baggage compensation am I owed?

Under the Montreal Convention the airline's liability is up to 1,519 SDR (about €1,900) per passenger — covering necessity purchases during a delay, the value of lost baggage, or repair of damage. The actual amount depends on documented loss: keep every receipt.

What is a PIR and why is it vital?

The PIR (Property Irregularity Report) is the airport baggage report — file it at the baggage desk before leaving the airport. Without it, airlines often reject claims. If you missed it, submit a written report immediately.

What are the deadlines?

Damage: in writing within 7 days. Delay: in writing within 21 days of receiving the bag. If the bag hasn't turned up for 21 days, it counts as lost and full compensation can be claimed. Court claims must be filed within 2 years.
